Or to have an alliance named "Clockwork Pineapple" who can't use anachronisms or Earth-things in their logo.

To be fair, there's a line between consistency and monotony. In the case of EVE Scout, grimdark fails to capture what they're about, and that's job #1 for a logo. Is Red Frog Freight supposed to look like a bunch of violent mercenaries? (Those are their mains! )
Also, if there's a place where Comic Sans is nowhere to be found, can you really call it a dystopia? I'd move there in a heartbeat. I mean, it's even abused horribly by corporations! It's perfect!
More seriously, the grimdark-for-everyone policy rules out any number of dystopian options, from the Orwellian father-knows-best overlord with its slick, feel-good propaganda to the genuinely well-meaning but disastrous computer in Paranoia, to the once-good-but-corrupted institution that still wears the whites and the lions rampant that it chose when it was good. How about violent radicals who appropriate the banner of the much more moderate organization they are trying to overthrow? How about good-seeming front corporations, or innocuous laundering corps? Sisters of EVE, right? Isn't the Guristas skullbunny cartoony and silly? All of this stuff is already in game. Why can't we have it?
These are all academic questions to me--I've never spent a significant amount of time in an alliance big enough to qualify for a logo, and I'm not even in an alliance now. But in terms of the EVE Universe as I've come to know it, this seems like a bit of a straitjacket.
Oh, and there's the minor detail that I find grimdark absurd, and I find absurdity hilarious.
